On September 30th, 1980, at the Noel Shore Community Hall a public meeting was held by EMO co-ordinator Paul Densmore, to discuss the need for a local search and rescue organization as East Hants has large area's off wooded area.
Shortly after, in 1980, the East Hants Ground Search and Rescue was founded to assist RCMP and local authorities in searching and rescuing people in distress. On December 12th, 1980 the team was first utilized for a search in the Lake Killarney area near Oxford.
Initially the association worked with the limited resources available and ran the majority of our search and rescue operations from the back of a truck. It was not until June 1984 that we purchased a school bus from the Colchester East Hants School Board, as well as 4 CB radios.
On September 25th, we were declared to be an agency of the Municipality of East Hants.
