The Sheet Harbour & Area Ground Search & Rescue team has been serving the citizens of Nova Scotia for 35 years and is a members of the NSGSAR Association.

From  it’s beginnings under the Dept. of Natural Resources just over 50 volunteers served a large geographic stretch of the Eastern Shore from Mooseland  Road to Sherbrooke. The Team is bordered by Eastern Shore GSAR to the West, Musquodoboit Valley GSAR and Pictou County GSAR Teams to the North, with Strait & Area GSAR Team to the East. In it’s early years  the Team would be kept busy with callouts for missing hunters and fishers, however over the years with better education, and training programs to the public, those calls have reduced. Present day the team consists of just over 35 members and has grown in it’s tools and training to perform the tasks required of it. Generous support over the years in the Team’s Annual Fish Derby Fund Raiser, held the first Sat. of June every year and now in to it’s 22nd year. It has provided significant funding to acquire the vehicle and tools needed and to maintain it’s day to day operation. We are in the process of acquiring land to build a home of our own to keep our extensive inventory, including inflatable boats, canoes, Argo, 4x4 Suburban’s, buses for transport and Command Vehicle, Logistics support trailers and a truck. The team conducts regular Training and is one of the four members of HRM’s Regional Search & Rescue Group. We also conduct  Public Education programs like Adventure SMART and Hug A Tree.
