The mandate of Clare Ground Search & Rescue is to locate and rescue lost or missing persons in the municipality of Clare and return them to safety. To assist other like minded organizations in the performance of search and rescue for lost / missing people.

Spearheaded by RCMP officer Constable Giles Duguay, founding members of the Clare Search and Rescue Association included Fred Belliveau, Roland Comeau, Donald Saulnier, Alain Comeau, Melburne Muise with about 80 members. CGSAR was founded on 4 December 1984.

With more than 32 years of service, Clare Ground Search & Rescue, a volunteer organization, participates in ground search and rescue and civilian emergencies in Clare and other communities in Nova Scotia [mutual aid].

CGSAR works with other search and rescue teams in Nova Scotia, as well as other emergency response teams including the RCMP, EMO, the Department of Natural Resources, the Canadian Coast Guard, Fire Brigades, Canadian Red Cross and others.

Provide an on-site and mobile, self-sufficient command structure capable of responding 24/7 in many contexts outside traditional wilderness or urban search and rescue.
